Integrating Preparing and Nurturing Children
with Special Needs
The IPAN Program is patterned after the Ai-Ban Class (in Pin Yin) from the mother school in Taiwan, which means “The Love Class”. This “Love Class” is actually a segregated class of children with special needs whose learning abilities are being addressed through the Montessori and other early childhood teaching methodologies.
In the Philippines, the IPAN Program which started in 2006, is not only known as the “Love Class”. IPAN is an acronym for Integrating, Preparing And Nurturing Children with Special Needs. The Program was initiated by the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, with Sr. Stephanie Chang as the first coordinator.
The beauty of the IPAN Program of St. Joseph School, Naga City, lies in its mainstreaming feature – all children with special needs who are under the program, when ready, are taught together with their regular peers in the regular class. Together they learn and grow with unconditional love and concern.
